Riza Hequibal has always had a love for music and its various means of interpretation. For twenty years, she has performed extensively as a soloist as well as in an array of ensembles across the country.
A native of California, Ms. Hequibal pursued her undergraduate studies at the Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington, IN under the instruction of Distinguished Professor of Harp, Susan McDonald. Ms. Hequibal received her Bachelors of Music from Columbia College, Chicago, IL where she continued to explore her studies in Jazz. She pursued her Master of Music from Georgia State University's School of Music under the instruction of Elisabeth Remy, Principal Harpist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Other instructors include Dominique Piana, Linda Wood, Beverly Wesner-Hoehn, Deborah Henson-Conant, Stella Castellucci and Distinguished Professor of Jazz, David Baker.
Ms. Hequibal held the position of Director of Orchestra and Early Childhood Music at Greater Atlanta Christian School, Norcross, GA prior to moving to the New Jersey area.
Ms. Hequibal has recorded with internationally acclaimed Jazz Trumpeter, Marcus Printup (of Jazz At Lincoln Center) on one of his recent albums, Bird of Paradise | Steeplechase Records. She is also featured on one of Mr. Printup's upcoming 'all-ballads' albums (not yet released). They will be recording their first duo album mid 2009.
She recently recorded with Kenny Werner and his Wind Ensemble which is expected to be released Spring of 2010 on Half Note Records. Ms. Hequibal has also assisted Wynton Marsalis (Artistic Director of Jazz At Lincoln Center) with the harp part for one his latest orchestral works, ‘Two in 3’ which was commissioned for and performed by the Detroit Symphony & The Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra.
